Ringwood's Concerte Experts History

Don Sanelli, the founder of Sanelli Concreting was born in 1924 in the Abruzzo Region in Italy.
Don started his working life working on the land in Italy, building houses, using natural rock, utilising local trees for beams, sourcing sand from paddocks, and making his own lime cement – all physical, hard work.

In 1956 Don and his wife Maria and two daughters migrated to Australia wanting a better life for his family. Don started working with the Board of Works, managing and carrying out many concrete jobs, and then worked for number of large Concrete Contractors in Melbourne.

In 1968, after the birth of his two sons, Don established his own business, Sanelli Concreting. In just a few years, Sanelli Concreting became one of the most well-known concreters in Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs. Don’s commitment to quality and his eye for detail became a trademark of Sanellli Concreting. With an ever-growing business, his two son’s Santo and Tony, at an early age, began to learn the concreting craft from the master himself and became integral to the success of Sanelli Concreting.

Whilst Don retired at the ripe old age of 85, he has handed over the reins of Sanelli Concreting to the most capable of hands, his two sons Santo and Tony.

Today, Sanelli Concreting continues Don’s legacy, with an eye for detail, commitment to quality, prompt and efficient service and quality of workmanship, satisfying many a client with the perfect concreting solutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you only work in Ringwood?

No, in addition to Ringwood, we also carry out concrete works and projects in all nearby Eastern Melbourne suburbs including Park Orchards, Heathmont, Mitcham, Croydon South Heatherdale, Nunawading and all other surrounding areas.

What’s the difference between concrete and cement?

Although the terms cement and concrete often are used interchangeably, cement is an ingredient of concrete. Cement is a dry powder.

Concrete is a building material made of aggregates, such as sand and stone, water and cement.

Can all concreters lay exposed aggregate concrete?

No, exposed aggregate is specialised. If exposed aggregate is your choice of concrete, or for an exposed aggregate driveway you need a highly skilled and experienced concreter to achieve a beautiful and even finish.

How soon can I walk or drive on my new concrete driveway?

Walking is generally acceptable after 24 to 48 hours unless the concrete was stamped or decoratively finished. In those instances, an extra day or two may be necessary

If you are planning to drive on newly finished concrete, we recommend that you wait seven to ten days.

Is concrete always gray?

Mineral colours can be added to concrete to give it a colour. This means concrete can come in virtually any colour, from red to blue to green and more.

Does concrete require maintenance?

While concrete is pretty durable on its own, with proper care and maintenance, concrete can remain in excellent condition for many, many years.

For example, concrete driveways are very low maintenance and generally only require the occasional scrub and a brush and hose down to remove dirt.
